Description Engineer 3 (Structural or Mechanical) **Confidential Security Clearance Required*** Position Specifics: Candidate must: -be a Mechanical or Structural Engineer -be capable of applying technical knowledge on ship structure and foundations. -have experience conducting ship checks. -have knowledge of AutoCAD. Responsibilities: The Engineer 3 will support foundation and structural engineering analysis and perform ship checks on a variety of ship classes. The Engineer 3 will be responsible for Engineering and CAD services developing and reviewing Structural requirements and arrangement drawings. The Engineer 3 will investigate and prepare technical reports. This position may require some travel (25%).. A preferred candidate will have: -knowledge of shock analysis in support of Navy Shipyards -knowledge of Femap, NeiNastran, NX Nastran, Abaqus, Pro Engineering, and MathCAD Performs engineering tasks requiring extensive expertise in at least one engineering discipline and brings expertise of a wide range of engineering disciplines. Evaluates, selects, adapts, and modifies using advanced techniques and procedures to achieve complex and difficult design objectives. Responsible for hardware or software spec design, systems integration planning, and execution. Capable of operating specialized diagnostic instruments, designing performance and operating specs and analyzing test data. Prepares reports, drawings, and other documentation as required. Performs engineering analyses for identifying and selecting the most suitable arrangements in manufacturing, assembly and installation processes and the optimum materials for use in the design. Responsible for training engineers and technical support personnel in procedures and methods required. Masters Degree + 2; Bachelors Degree in Engineering (i.e., Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, etc.) and +5 OR Bachelors Degree in the Physical Sciences (i.e., Physics, Chemistry, etc.) + 7. Ability to supervise technical staff. Ability to apply comprehensive knowledge on engineering practices and techniques to complex situations and non-routine tasks. Ability to interact and present technical information verbally and in writing (briefings, presentations, training, etc) to internal and external customers. Ability to use prescribed mathematical formulas and models to calculate measures for assemblies, equipment or systems. Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Proficient in the use of PCs and word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, desktop applications, and electronic mail programs and of standard test equipment to identify and isolate problems (i.e., digital meters, oscilloscopes, strain and pressure gauges). Office, industrial or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances. Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift. Possible exposure to fumes and irritants normally encountered in an industrial or shipboard environment. May involve gathering of data while observing machinery or equipment operations.
